Adults - Vincent van Gogh - The Potato Eaters

Van Gogh saw The Potato Eaters as a showpiece for which he deliberately chose a difficult composition to prove that he was on the way to becoming a good figure painter. The painting was intended to depict the harsh reality of rural life, so he gave the farmers rough faces and bony, working hands. It is one of Van Gogh's most famous works.
