The Scream is the popular name for a composition by Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch from 1893. The original German title Munch gave to his work was "The Scream of Nature", the Norwegian title is "Skrik" (Scream). The tormented face in the painting has become one of the most iconic images in art, symbolizing human anguish.
