The sun is the central image of a cycle of eleven murals created in 1911 for the University of Oslo, which take up a stripe technique that Munch had already developed in other paintings. An explosion of light, very different from the gloom of "The Scream": the color brings to life a multitude of different shades that are reflected in the water of a Norwegian fjord in a style so innovative that it is reminiscent of abstract art.
