Ernst Ludwig Kirchner - The Street

Kirchner created this painting at a time of loneliness and uncertainty, shortly after the Brücke group disbanded in 1913. For Kirchner, the prostitute was a symbol of the modern city, where glamour and danger, intimacy and alienation necessarily coexist and everything is for sale.
