Edward Hopper - gas

On the border between nature and civilization, between day and night, this gas station is located in an undefined, eerie place. In Hopper's 1940 painting, not even the human presence succeeds in breathing life into the scene, which is dominated by a sense of drama: the exaggeration of the alienating loneliness of an American country road.
