In the 1920s, Kandinsky deepened his investigations into the correspondence between colors and shapes and their psychological and spiritual effects. "The circle," said Kandinsky, "is the synthesis of the greatest opposites. It unites the concentric and the eccentric in a single form and in balance. Of the three basic forms, it most clearly indicates the fourth dimension."
