Vincent van Gogh - Fishing boats on the beach at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

The fishermen's boats seem a little unreal. Compared to the irregular surface of the sandy beach, they are painted too two-dimensionally. The boats consist of evenly colored areas with strong outlines. In addition, the boats do not cast shadows on the beach. These stylistic elements were familiar to Van Gogh from his collection of Japanese prints.
